raghu rai's reply from long ago.
About the time that Raghubir Singh wrote about the necessity of being English literate to be a good photographer - because the 'History of Photography is written in English', I had written a review of a Raghu Rai exhibition in new Delhi - of his Delhi photographs.
Here is a quote from him - "They are visually illiterate ad mentally arrogant . Just because 'angrezi' is a big deal here anyone who knows it can get up and criticise anything. What right do they have to criticise something they know nothing about. Photography is a misunderstood affair in India. Even photographers don't understand the medium. And wordsmen want to remain supreme regardless of everything."
