French broadcaster removes program replay after actress denounces Israel’s genocide in Gaza

French public broadcaster France Télévisions has removed the online replay of a France 5 program after actress Adèle Haenel used the broadcast to denounce Israel’s genocide in Gaza and France’s complicity.
Haenel appeared on La Grande Librairie on 9 September and used a closing segment to call for sanctions against Israel and freedom for Palestine.
Haenel said her team recorded the segment because they expected her remarks to be edited out, but France Télévisions instead removed the entire replay from its website.
The broadcaster said the replay was taken down because Haenel’s comments on Palestine were not counterbalanced by an opposing viewpoint during the program.
The removal drew criticism from lawmakers from the left-wing France Unbowed (LFI) party, with Gabrielle Cathala, Danièle Obono and Aymeric Caron condemning the decision and demanding an explanation over who had pressured the broadcaster to remove the replay.
