Why did Saudi Arabia and Kuwait resist helping U.S. Operation “Project Freedom”?
Jeremy Scahill says Saudi and Kuwaiti resistance was one factor in Trump backing off Project Freedom.
Kuwait, in particular, had taken heavy strikes during the war and did not want to be left exposed again.
He says the Gulf states likely felt the U.S. prioritized Israel and its own war aims while leaving them vulnerable. He also suggests the blockade has been a “strategic failure” for Trump, and hurt many countries more than Iran – which still has food, fuel, and basic supplies, despite liquidity problems and inflation.
