It should be abundantly clear that this war is already a profound strategic failure.
Trump is now insisting that the US might need to return periodically for "spot hits" inside Iran given that Operation Epic Fury produced no lasting result.
This is music to Netanyahu's ears.
In essence, Trump is saying that he wishes to adopt Israel's "mowing the lawn" strategy—launching periodic military raids to keep their adversaries weak and in a constant state of chaos.
This is a recipe for perpetual war—on behalf of a foreign country, no less. This was always Israel's objective.
By convincing Trump to make this war his own, Netanyahu has again successfully tied the United States to Israel's aggressive and expansive foreign policy agenda.
