the most dangerous scenario [for US supremacy] would be a grand coalition of China, Russia, and perhaps Iran, an ‘anti-hegemonic’ coalition

Former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, among the most influential political theorists in modern US history, wrote in 1997 that “the most dangerous scenario [for US supremacy] would be a grand coalition of China, Russia, and perhaps Iran, an ‘anti-hegemonic’ coalition united not by ideology but by complementary grievances.” Disrupting any such ‘anti-hegemonic’ coalition continues to be the lodestar of US foreign policy, regardless of the occupant of the White House or the red-blue mix in Congress. The cold war against China, the proxy war against Russia, the destabilisation campaign against Iran, and indeed the genocide in Gaza, the regime change in Iran, the attack on Venezuela and the attempted suffocation of Cuba must all be understood in this context. Brzezinski’s theory also, ironically, indicates the broad contours of the global united front against imperialism, against hegemonism, against war, against racism, for sovereignty, for equality, for international law, for peace.
