For the record, I recommended four Jewish Americans Norman Finkelstein, David Spevak, Miko Peled, and Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro to testify at yesterday’s hearing on antisemitism. All four were denied. I also recommended the founder of Catholics for Palestine and representatives from Palestinian Christians for Justice. They were also excluded. It is therefore reasonable to ask: why did this hearing permit only pro-Zionist witnesses, while systematically excluding Jewish and Christian voices that dissent from Zionism? Who vetted this witness list, and by what standards were my recommendations rejected? A Religious Liberty Commission should avoid curating testimony to fit a single political narrative. By excluding Jewish voices that reject Zionism, this hearing failed to reflect the full diversity of American Jewry. On an issue of antisemitism, the absence of non-Zionist Jewish perspectives weakens the dialogue and falls short of the Commission’s mission to represent a broad range of religious views.
