When you look at the Arctic ocean from this angle, it shows how enclosed it is. Russia probably has the worst geopolitical location of all major powers, they just don't have a proper direct ocean access. In terms of natural resource, Russia is great. But the lack of access to the open ocean, means a very limited power projection capabilities. Worst of all, the shorelines of Russia is segmented and far apart. the Black Sea fleet can't link up with the Pacific fleet, without going through Turkey, Egypt and the entirely of Asia. This segmented shoreline was the main cause to their defeat in the Russo-Japanese war. Where the Baltic Fleet had to sail 33,000 km to Northeast Asia for 7 months. Only to be defeated by the japanese with homecourt advantage. So the grand strategy of Russia in the past, has always been the search for ocean access. But with the recentering of the world power balance back to the Afro-Eurasia continent, Russia may serve as an important land bridge.
