Netanyahu’s Statements Reveal Israel’s Expanding War Calculus In a series of recent remarks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered a rare glimpse into the mindset shaping Tel Aviv’s regional strategy, one that extends far beyond Lebanon or Gaza, reaching deep into Iran and Iraq. Netanyahu said he had “read the intelligence reports about Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and learned that he is the axis of the Axis, the one who moves and directs the entire network.” The Israeli leader claimed he refused to share these reports with the Americans, “fearing leaks of such sensitive information.” This statement reveals not only Israel’s enduring obsession with Hezbollah’s Secretary-General but also Netanyahu’s personal belief that Nasrallah remains the central command figure of the entire “Axis of Resistance,” linking Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Iran. Netanyahu also confirmed that the pagers operation, was launched “after receiving intelligence that Hezbollah had sent samples for testing.” Although he provided no further details. In another notable admission, Netanyahu said: “Our eyes remain fixed on Iran. I spoke with Trump about this issue. We managed to push back their threat, but the confrontation with them is far from over.” His words signal that despite shifts in Washington and regional dynamics, Israel’s strategic priority remains consistent: preventing Iran from consolidating influence across the region, while simultaneously working to dismantle the Axis of Resistance through targeted strikes and political pressure. Netanyahu also confirmed discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump about “Iraqi militias”, a reference to the Popular Mobilization Forces, which Israel and the U.S. have long accused of operating under Iranian direction. Taken together, these statements paint a clear picture of an Israeli leadership still guided by a doctrine of preemptive confrontation. Netanyahu’s remarks show that the “northern front”, from Lebanon to Iraq, is seen not as a series of isolated arenas but as one integrated battlefield in Israel’s long war against the Axis of Resistance. While Netanyahu presents these actions as necessary for Israel’s security, they reflect a dangerous expansion of military aggression, one that risks dragging the entire region into a wider and more devastating conflict.
