Cute attempt at a “fact check,” Jowelle. Since you’re quoting me on “Hezbollah 101,”let me take you to graduate level; history, theology, facts, context, & things you clearly didn’t study…

Cute attempt at a “fact check,” Jowelle. Since you’re quoting me on “Hezbollah 101,”let me take you to graduate level; history, theology, facts, context, & things you clearly didn’t study… 2/ Wilayat al-Faqih isn’t “political obedience” or Tehran’s leash, it’s a Shia theological principle where a jurist guides on Islamic law, like Catholics heeding the Pope. Hezbollah’s so-called “pledge of allegiance” to Sayyed Khamenei is a spiritual commitment to follow his religious rulings, not a vow of blind loyalty to Iran. They consult the faqih for alignment with Islamic values (per their 1985/2009 charters), but decisions are made in Lebanon, by its Lebanese leaders, for Lebanon’s defense. Your “Iran’s bidding” claim betrays ignorance of Shia doctrine. Stop gaslighting. 3/Hezbollah never hid Iran’s funding, arms, or training; support that drove Israel out of south Lebanon in 2000 when the state failed its people. Every faction’s had foreign patrons since their inceptions: Phalange (Israel), Amal (Syria), Future Movement (Saudi). Your selective outrage at Iran’s role while ignoring this history is textbook hypocrisy. Apply the same standard to your allies. 4/ “Iranian mercenaries”? That’s lazy propaganda… Nasrallah’s 2016 pledge to Sayyed Khameini is theological, not contractual. Hezbollah’s actions, fighting Israel, winning 600,000 votes in 2022, are Lebanese-driven. Your 53 votes don’t qualify you to lecture on their loyalties. If you want to debate Wilayat al-Faqih, at least study Shia doctrine before parroting western think-tank talking points. 5/ The 1989 Taif Agreement (Section 1, Part 3) preserved Hezbollah’s resistance against Israel, unlike the other militias. Their arms are legal, rooted in Lebanon’s need to counter Israeli violations, 4,500 in the last 11 months alone. Calling them a “private army” ignores Taif & reality. Read the text, not slogans. 6/ You scream “Iranian interference” but stay silent on Saudi & U.S. meddling that’s gutted Lebanon’s sovereignty. Saudi kidnapped PM Hariri in 2017, forced his resignation on TV, & now blocks his electoral return. The U.S. ties reconstruction aid to Hezbollah’s disarmament while Israel bombs Lebanon daily. They’ve blocked LAF arming since its inception to keep it too weak to face Israel, ensuring it’s a “police force” for Israel’s security, as U.S. envoy Tom Barrack admitted just weeks ago: “Who are they going to fight? We’re going to arm them so they can fight Israel? I don’t think so... You’re arming them so they can fight their own people, Hezbollah” (The National, Sept. 2025). Iran & Russia offered to fully equip & train the LAF, guess who vetoed it? Your U.S. patrons & their local proxies. Every faction has foreign cash. Who currently finances the LF? Hezbollah’s Iranian support is no outlier; it’s just the one you cherry-pick. 7/ Lebanon’s decay, civil war (1975-1990), corruption, no electricity, predates Hezbollah’s 1982 founding. Blaming them for systemic rot is absurd. Quoting Carnegie, funded by the U.S. & Gulf powers that armed Lebanon’s militias, as gospel? Your sources are as biased as your narrative. 8/ “London balcony”? I was in Lebanon throughout Israel’s 2024 bombings, closer to the south’s rubble than you’ve ever been. Most of you anti-Hezbollah cheerleaders haven’t set foot south of Sidon, if that at all, yet you play “experts” on “life under missiles?” Save the faux empathy. My six international journalism awards speak to my work, not your Google searches. 9/ You can “play journalist” all you want, it doesn’t make you one nor does skimming documents make you informed, it just makes you loud. Quoting out-of-context snippets from Google isn’t journalism either, it pretence. Unlike you, I don’t “play” journalist. I am one, with six international awards to prove it. Come back with the same regurgitated points, & I won’t bother responding further. Your “facts” are propaganda, not truth.

Oh wow Hala Jaber giving us a “101 course” on Hezbollah from her London balcony. How generous. Let’s do some actual fact checking since she insists on “facts” (sources: Hezbollah official texts, Cairo Review, Wilson Center).1/9
