Iran: US blocking resolution to ban attacks on nuclear sites

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization spokesperson Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Sunday that the United States has rejected Tehran’s proposed resolution to prohibit attacks on nuclear facilities.
Speaking ahead of the 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Kamalvandi noted the initiative was introduced after US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June, and warned that Washington has even threatened to cut IAEA funding if the resolution is adopted.
He stressed that such attacks endanger not only Iran’s nuclear facilities but also international law and the NPT, urging global cooperation to prevent future incidents.
Kamalvandi said the issue impacts the safety of nuclear infrastructure worldwide and called for unity among nations at the 15–19 September conference, which will also cover safeguards, security, and political affairs.
