An Australian council has refused to host an artwork commemorating 18,457 Palestinian children killed in Gaza,
The Wall of Tears, created by American artist Phil Buehler, lists the names of children reported killed between October 2023 and July 2025.
Organisers in New South Wales say Shoalhaven City Council asked them to consider armed guards, restrict entry, shorten the exhibition and stop advertising it because of potential security and reputational concerns.
Despite the organisers' willingness to meet the conditions, the council rejected the exhibition. The artwork has previously been displayed at other Australian venues, including Parliament House in Canberra. Organisers have arranged an alternative exhibition at Berry Uniting Church.
