"If Iran didn't exist," says @SecRubio . Not if occupation didn't exist. Not if apartheid didn't exist.

"If Iran didn't exist," says . Not if occupation didn't exist. Not if apartheid didn't exist. Not if ethnic cleansing didn't exist. Not if land grabbing didn't exist. Not if genocide didn't exist. Not if a clandestine nuclear arsenal hidden behind "strategic ambiguity" didn't exist. Not if US bases scattered across the region didn't exist. No. *If Iran didn't exist.* The Nakba was 31 years old when the Islamic Revolution came. The occupation was 12. Palestinians were refugees long before any Iranian cleric held power. Iran did not create the Palestinian question. It inherited a world that refused to answer it, and it stood with the Palestinian cause long before it was cool. After the Revolution, Iran cut ties with two regimes: Israel and apartheid South Africa. It was a principled position, grounded in both ethics and international law. Rubio calls it extremist ideology. Washington once called Mandela a terrorist, too. Erase Iran from the map, and the checkpoints remain. The settlements remain. The refugees remain. The graves in Gaza remain. The problem was never that Iran exists. The problem is that justice for Palestine doesn't.

Marco Rubio on Palestine: If there were no radical Shia clerics in Iran, if they didn't exist, if that wasn't there, none of these problems would exist. You may still have a Palestinian issue. I would argue that issue would be easier to deal with if Iran didn't exist.
