Gamal Abdel Nasser said it plainly.
The Israelis “speak about the Nazi treatment and how they were badly treated in Germany… they treated Arabs the same way, and they expelled them, killed them, killed their children, destroyed their villages.”
He was there in 1948. He watched villages emptied, families driven out, children killed, homes erased. Then the world was told to remember only one catastrophe and forget the other.
Nasser’s point was not complicated: you cannot claim exclusive victimhood while repeating the same methods of expulsion and destruction against another people. The Palestinian refugees did not vanish. Their villages were not imaginary. Their right of return was not a slogan invented yesterday.
Palestine was not empty land waiting for a new owner. It was a people with homes, fields, and children. Those who were driven out still exist. Their demand is not hatred. It is return, recognition, and an end to the idea that one people’s suffering erases another’s.
From the river to the sea, the land had a people. They were not erased. They were not forgotten. They are still here.
