Japan demands Russia remove monument to Soviet victory over Imperial Japan 😂😂😂 Japan has formally demanded that Russia dismantle the newly unveiled “Victory in the East” monument in Khabarovsk, dedicated to the Soviet victory over militarist Japan and the end of World War II. The monument depicts a Soviet soldier smashing a Japanese border marker bearing the Imperial chrysanthemum crest with the butt of his rifle. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called the imagery “completely unacceptable,” saying the chrysanthemum remains a national symbol of Japan and that Tokyo will continue demanding the monument’s removal. Russia has rejected the objection. Russian officials say the border marker is modeled on one erected by Imperial Japan on Sakhalin, and that the chrysanthemum in this historical context represents the Japanese militarism defeated by Soviet forces in 1945. The monument is staying. Forever.
