We were told the Soviet Union invaded an "unlucky" Afghanistan, and that the U.S. stepped in to fund the Mujahideen to liberate the country. 

But the historical ledger tells a much darker truth: Afghanistan wasn’t unlucky. It was deliberately sacrificed.

As Chalmers Johnson exposed in 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦, the CIA didn’t react to the Soviet invasion; they engineered it. In July 1979, six months 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 Soviet tanks crossed the border, Zbigniew Brzezinski signed the directive to arm the Mujahideen. 

His explicit goal? To draw the USSR into an "Afghan trap" and give them their own Vietnam. 

When asked if he regretted arming Islamic fundamentalists, Brzezinski’s answer was chillingly honest: “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺? 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘵 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦?”

To the imperial architect, 1.8 million dead Afghans, 2.6 million refugees, and a country littered with 10 million landmines were not a tragedy. They were an acceptable line-item expense in the Cold War budget. The Afghan people were never allies; they were cannon fodder.

And the empire thought it could control the monsters it created. Instead, the very forces armed to bleed the Soviets eventually (according to thier own narrativ) turned their guns on New York and Washington on 9/11.

This is not ancient history. It is the active, ongoing blueprint of U.S. foreign policy. 

Look at Ukraine today. Washington did not step in to "defend democracy"; it systematically fueled a proxy war, turning a sovereign nation into a demographic and infrastructural meat grinder to bleed Russia. The U.S. military-industrial complex reaps record profits, European taxpayers are forced to foot the bill for this imperial overstretch, and Ukrainian cities are reduced to rubble—all while Washington claims the moral high ground.

When a "superpower" views entire populations merely as expendable bait for geopolitical traps, we must ask: Is the empire truly a defender of global freedom, or is it the ultimate architect of global devastation?
