By all measures that actually matter, however, the United States unequivocally lost strategically, and Iran is unequivocally in a stronger position geopolitically than before the war started.

Yeah, no kidding. Any country that eats more than 15,000 bombing missions from its opponent is going to suffer severe damage. Damage has nothing to do with who wins or loses a war though. Look at Vietnam. Look at the Taliban. The amount of suffering endured is not the measure of winning or losing. The fact that what used to be the preeminent foreign policy publication Foreign Affairs still gets this wrong is itself illustrative of the decline of the western world. By all measures that actually matter, however, the United States unequivocally lost strategically, and Iran is unequivocally in a stronger position geopolitically than before the war started. It’s not even a serious debate.
