 Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appeared to be publicly distancing himself from the memorandum of understanding Thursday, saying he initially opposed the Iran-U.S. MOU but authorized it after President Masoud Pezeshkian, on behalf of himself and other members of the Supreme National Security Council, pledged to protect “the rights of the Iranian nation and the Resistance Front.”

He also said:

 He said Iranian officials assured him they would not be bound by any attempt by the United States to “exaggerate” or expand the agreement beyond its terms.

 Khamenei added that future face-to-face negotiations “will not mean accepting the enemy’s opinion,” signaling continued resistance to U.S. demands.

 “Originally, I had a different opinion,” Khamenei said, describing his approval as contingent on guarantees from the Iranian President.

 “From this moment, we… will wait for the fulfillment of the mentioned conditions,” Khamenei said, indicating Iran now expects the agreement’s terms to be implemented.
