This reaffirms that President Trump does not have control over Benjamin Netanyahu or Israel. As long as this condition persists, it is a virtual, if not absolute, impossibility for the MOU with Iran to be converted into an end of war settlement. It’s that simple: the US has to coerce Israel to stop fighting in Lebanon and withdrawal, or President Trump has to quit trying to reach a settlement in the war and recognize Israel is going to remain an independent actor. But what President Trump cannot have, is Israel doing what it wants AND settling the war with Iran. They are mutually exclusive.
