In a 2002 interview with Democracy Now!, Shulamit Aloni, a former Minister of Education and member of the Isr*eli parliament, was asked why critics of Isr*eli policy in the US are often labelled as antis*mitic
Her response was blunt: “Well, it’s a trick. We always use it”. She explained that whenever someone from Europe criticises Israel, they "bring up the Holocaust," and whenever someone in the US does the same, they are branded "antis*mitic".
According to Aloni, this tactic serves a specific dual purpose: firstly, it leverages the historical trauma of the Jewish people and the H*locaust to discredit and silence anyone questioning the Isr*eli government.
Secondly, she noted, this manufactured label is used to "justify everything we do to the P*lestinians," effectively shielding Isr*el from moral or legal accountability.
Coming from a former cabinet minister, Aloni’s words remain a devastating critique of how accusations of antis*mitism are weaponised to suppress legitimate criticism of Isr*el and enable its g*nocidal policies.
