The picture has become clear: the real goal is not just to put pressure on Tehran, but to put pressure on the Gulf states and the entire region. The halt in energy exports from Gulf ports was not a secondary consequence of the war, but a direct result of the turbulent situation in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington justifies under the pretext of encircling Iran, while the actual encirclement is targeting the ports of Riyadh, Kuwait, Manama, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, and Doha.
The current situation reveals that the war on Iran has become a mere pretext, while the real game is being played out at sea. With each passing day under this pretext comes further suffocation of the Gulf economies and further legitimization of a military presence that has less to do with protecting navigation than with controlling it.
But this game will not last long. Recognizing the truth is the first step, and the next step will be different. The region’s patience with economic blackmail disguised as a security pretext has its limits, and when it runs out, the rules of navigation in international waters will be redrawn.
