When you look at what has happened to people that relied on the US for protection and also followed the US hostile approach in foreign diplomacy, you'll come to understand why the Taiwanese opposition leader visited China after 10yrs. Ukraine got deceived by the US, Germany and UK to fight Russia and lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers and about 20% of its entire territory and is still losing because Russia is still advancing westwards. The GCC countries relied on the US for defence but during this US war against Iran, they came under crossfires as Iran tried to neutralise US targets in their territories and also target them for allowing the US and Israel to bomb Iran from their territories. South Korea is avoiding this reality with North Korea, Japan is also avoiding this with China and Taiwan is now trying to avoid any fight with China despite the US support because, you know that the fight will only take place in these countries, not in the US. So it's better to live in harmony with your non aggressive neighbours by engaging them in diplomacy, instead of taking provocative approaches which the US is fond of, and also encourages its allies to employ.
