) warns that Netanyahu is "flailing" and "trying to figure out how he can rescue the situation." With the failure of conventional efforts, "there is a growing fear that "the only way you can do that is to destroy Iran as a functioning society."

As Iran becomes further incentivized to seek a nuclear deterrent, the risk of a catastrophic escalation reaches a breaking point. Mearsheimer cautions that in such a "giant mess," states often "pursue remarkably risky strategies" - including the unthinkable use of nuclear weapons.
