U.S. decision-makers are perfectly willing to endanger the lives of millions in the region for the sake of domestic political theater, with no real legal or constitutional restraints.

The war of choice against Iran, and Trump’s blatant betrayal of his campaign promise to end wars, would reinforce conclusions already spreading across the region:
It would reinforce the idea that the United States is inherently incapable of avoiding wars and cannot be trusted with regional security.
It would reinforce the belief that U.S. decision-makers are perfectly willing to endanger the lives of millions in the region for the sake of domestic political theater, with no real legal or constitutional restraints.
It would reinforce the perception that the U.S. political system is capable of elevating reckless, deranged, and psychologically unstable childmen like Trump and Hegseth to the highest positions of power, and allow them to set an entire region ablaze on a whim.
It would reinforce the view that the United States does not even act in pursuit of its own interests, but is instead driven by a deep-rooted Israel lobby in service of Israel’s expansionist projects.
And ultimately, it would reinforce the conclusion that the U.S. military presence in the region is not a source of security but a liability, and that the only viable path to regional stability lies in excluding U.S. bases and establishing an indigenous collective security regime.
