THE ISRAELI CYCLE OF VIOLENCE Egyptian journalist Rahma Zein dismantles Piers Morgan’s attempt to frame Iran as a “pariah state,” turning the spotlight back onto Israel and its role in the region. Zein makes it clear: if any state stands out for sustained violence in West Asia, it is Israel. Established in 1948 through the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians during the Nakba, Israel’s very foundation is rooted in settler colonialism and the mass displacement of an indigenous population. That reality is not a historical footnote; it is the starting point. Since then, Israel has consistently projected military force across the region. It has bombed and occupied Lebanon for decades, and continues to carry out strikes with near impunity, almost killing British journalist Steve Sweeney on 19th March, despite being marked as press. It seized Syria’s Golan Heights in 1967 and later annexed it in violation of international law. From Gaza to Lebanon, to Syria and beyond, Israel’s military footprint stretches across multiple fronts. Yet despite this record, mainstream journalists like Piers Morgan persistently frame Israel as a state acting in “self-defence.”
