The Economist's troubling journalism on Gaza is not without history.
During the British Raj, the Economist was the leading voice that opposed any famine relief since it went against its ideology of laissez faire. Any Raj official who provided relief was sharply attacked.
And since the Economist was so closely linked to Britain's elite, this crazy policy recommendation actually succeeded. Even sympathetic Raj officials stopped providing relief.
Tens of millions were intentionally starved to death in British India as a result.
