Reading Hebrew social media, the Israeli narrative is clear. Iran has never been a victim but always an aggressor. Israel is the perennial victim. Israel is simply defending its existence which has been inder threat for 46 years. We don't understand why they hate us, but we have been polite and tolerant for way too long. We have finally decided to take the future into our own hands. The fact that we are destroying Palestine, Lebanon and Iran as we do so is unfortunate, but it is their problem. We really can't understand why all they want to do is kill us all. This is true for the Palestinians as well. This, ultimately, is what just about all Israeli Jews see as self-evident regarding Israel's existence in the Middle East. We have no choice. The integrity of our parallel universe is threatened. We may have issues with the way our government operates but we agree with the values it embodies. They can be summed up in two lines: 1. Jew are always victims and attack only if they have no choice. 2. If a genocide can save a Jewish life, a genocide is wholly legitimate.
