You have to admire the perversity.
Trump does not even bother lying intelligently anymore.
He just says something so stupid, so brazen, so insultingly absurd that it functions as a loyalty test.
If you repeat it, you belong.
If you question it, you are out.
That is why he can count the possible future end of a war he helped ignite as proof of genius.
The statement is not meant to persuade rational people.
It is meant to identify the obedient.
