Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned of severe retaliation after comments by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting broader targets in Iran.
Trump said the U.S. could strike “areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time,” warning they could face “complete destruction and certain death.”
Ghalibaf said the statement amounted to an “official confession” that Washington intends to target civilians.
“The killing of people and attacks on population centers will have uncontrollable consequences,” he wrote. “We will respond recklessly and without restraint.”
