There is a reason they hit twice. Because one strike kills. Two strikes teach. The first says you are vulnerable. The second says your love for one another is also vulnerable. Your rush to help. Your refusal to abandon the wounded. Your last instinct to believe that humanity still imposes limits. That is what they wanted to murder most. Not just the girls. Not just the parents. The very idea that people would still run toward suffering instead of away from it. Empire fears that instinct because it cannot produce it. It can only bomb it.
