Currently, Israel and its lobby dismiss claims they influenced the U.S. to invade Iraq as antisemitic conspiracy theories. But in 2003, publicly tying Israel to the war was exactly their strategy. In the leaked Les Wexner-commissioned report "Israeli Communication Priorities 2003," consultant Frank Luntz advises the lobby that: "For a year - a SOLID YEAR - you should be invoking the name of Saddam Hussein and how Israel was always behind American efforts to rid the world of this ruthless dictator and liberate their people."

Guardian article from Aug. 2002. It notes that Prime Minister Sharon seemed to be changing tactics because Bush was coming under pressure not to strike Iraq. One source said, "Mr Sharon sees eye to eye with the extremists in the Pentagon. He is a very cunning tactician."
