CBS News is getting a very close look at an Iranian missile that landed in Tel Aviv. It is, by any measure, absolutely massive — and considerably more sophisticated than the Beltway's obedient stenographers at CNN and CBS had been telling the public to expect. Even I won't denigrate US intelligence agencies, they damn well knew but the Trump admin went ahead with the war anyway.
The cluster warhead releases its bomblets at roughly seven kilometres altitude, dispersing them across an eight-kilometre radius — each one a small, independently armed explosive, detonating on contact or functioning as a pressure-triggered device, effectively turning the strike zone into an aerial minefield.
The defence problem is structural — interception systems which have a low rate of interception on Iranian ballistics on a good day, are designed to destroy the missile itself. Once the warhead opens and releases submunitions at altitude, those individual bomblets are largely invisible for AD.
The Iron (Sieve) Dome and Arrow systems — the architecture that Washington spent decades and billions selling as an impenetrable shield have a massive blind spot and Iran exploits it.
The “degraded,” “depleted,” “desperate” Iranian military is now past its 30th m wave of Operation True Promise 4. Somebody should probably update the briefing slides for the stenographers.
