Senior White House Staff are revealing that Trump now regrets his decision to strike Iran having misled himself to believe the war would massively increase his approval ratings which remain mired around 42-43 percent. Meanwhile, US public approval of his unwinnable, forever war in Iran is around 38 percent which is half the approval level Bush's received for his war in Iraq at this point in the war.
Iran is rejecting Trump's cease-fire offers saying that even if the US stops fighting Iran will continue firing missiles and drones at the US and Israel until they agree to a permanent peace deal in which the US agrees to withdraw its entire military presence from the Persian Gulf region.
Sources familiar with the situation have told Axios of a “buyer’s remorse” within Trump’s inner circle. Several key and hesitant officials apparently desired more time for deliberation. “He essentially said, ‘I just want to do this,’” the source revealed. “He vastly overestimated his ability to overthrow the government without deploying ground troops.”
Axios suggests Trump might be able to withdraw from the war tomorrow, but Iranians could maintain a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and drive-up oil prices to the point where US intervention is once again necessary. According to Axios, Iran has openly stated that even if Trump decides to end the war, they can continue firing missiles and rockets to ensure that this is the end of the war not just a temporary ceasefire.
