Here is how they did it: 1) Following the 1991 Gulf War, Israeli officials began pivoting from viewing Iraq as the primary threat to Iran. In 1992, Benjamin Netanyahu told the Knesset that Iran was "3 to 5 years" from a nuclear bomb, a warning he would repeat for decades. 2) In 1996, Addressing Congress, Netanyahu warned that a nuclear Iran would have "catastrophic consequences," urging a policy of containment and the D’Amato Act sanctions, which Israel helped design. 3) Before the invasion of Iraq, Netanyahu testified to a U.S. House Committee, advocating for the removal of Saddam Hussein while identifying Iran as the next and more significant nuclear threat. 4) In 2006 Israel collaborated with the U.S. on the Stuxnet cyberattack to physically sabotage Iranian centrifuges at Natanz, marking a shift toward active operational "fostering" of conflict. 5) At the United Nations General Assembly, Netanyahu used a literal diagram of a bomb to illustrate a "red line" for Iranian uranium enrichment, implicitly calling for U.S. military backing if that line was crossed. 6) Netanyahu bypassed the White House to address Congress again, attempting to block the Obama administration's nuclear deal (JCPOA), which he called a "historic mistake" that made war more likely later. 7) In 2018 Mossad stole a massive archive of Iranian nuclear documents. After a week of intense lobbying, the U.S. joined the war on June 22, 2025, striking Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. 10) Following the 2025 ceasefire, Israel has renewed pressure on the second Trump administration to launch preemptive strikes against Iran’s remaining ballistic missile production hubs.
