The result is clear: the Commission stacked the panel with Zionists.

The controversy surrounding yesterday’s Commission on Religious Liberty hearing happened for a simple reason: every witness who testified was a Zionist. That serves two political purposes for Zionists.
First, by placing only Zionist Jews on the panel—some visibly wearing yarmulkes—it creates the impression that all Jews are Zionists, and that anti-Zionist Jews are merely a fringe, unworthy of a voice. Second, it ensures that the “antisemitism” under discussion is defined almost entirely as anti-Israel activity and anti-Zionism.
An exception was when read a statement by Rabbi arguing that all Jews—not only Zionist Jews—are portrayed by a foreign state (Israel) as nationally connected to it, thereby fueling classic antisemitic tropes of dual loyalty. This harms all Jews, including those who reject any national connection to Israel. It also gives ammunition to those who want to harm Jews. That practice itself is antisemitic.
No one answered the substance of that complaint—because it is devastating. Instead, the Zionist witnesses pivoted, changed the subject, and one dismissed the statement by claiming that “if he is using a double standard,” then Rabbi Shapiro himself is being antisemitic.
The result is clear: the Commission stacked the panel with Zionists. The only person present who pushed back against a position that is dangerous to Jews and counterproductive to combating antisemitism was a Catholic—making it appear that all Jews are Zionists, and that opposition to Zionism comes only from non-Jews.
Scoop: Rabbi Shapiro was originally invited by to testify in person, but was later told all speaking slots were filled and was asked to submit a written statement instead. We will obtain and post that full statement shortly.
