This is absolutely astonishing for anyone who's followed the BBC's reporting on China in recent years. Literally a complete vibe shift. Just 3-4 years ago, people saying the same thing as this BBC journalist would have been the subject of BBC hit-pieces explaining they were malignant "Chinese propagandists." I'm not exaggerating, it literally happened. Check this 2021 BBC article on "the foreigners in China’s disinformation drive" (bbc.com/news/world-asi) framing foreign vloggers who speak positively about China as "foreign faces who can help sell government messaging overseas." Fast-forward to now and the BBC **themselves** are now saying that "China is owning the future" of global power (that's literally the title of the video: youtube.com/watch?v=xibp_l), that China "doesn't demand fealty, doesn't demand you adopt its ideology," that countries are "flocking" to do deals with Beijing and that China is, "for all intents and purposes, a lovely place to live." Turns out those of us who said all this years ago weren't propagandists, we were just early
