Grace Tame didn't call for the murder of Jews here or anywhere else. That's both factually wrong and probably defamatory.

Grace Tame didn't call for the murder of Jews here or anywhere else. That's both factually wrong and probably defamatory.
Intifada is Arabic for "shaking off" or "uprising," and refers to two periods of Palestinian resistance against Israel's illegal occupation of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem: most notably the First Intifada (1987–1993), characterised by protests and stone-throwing, and the Second Intifada (2000–2005), which involved suicide bombings and armed conflict.
Regardless of which side is supported, there is a basis in international law for these actions. 1982 UN General Assembly resolution 37/43 reaffirms the legitimacy of the struggle of peoples for independence, territorial integrity, national unity and liberation from colonial and foreign domination, and foreign occupation by all available means including armed struggle.
That does not mean all acts of violence are justified, especially those perpetrated against civilians. But it does mean that there is a significant level of support for both intifadas in one of the pillars of international society. Much legal scholarship has discussed this very point.
"Globalise the intifada" is open to a small range of interpretations, but to the extent that it refers to resisting an illegal occupation, pursuing the right to self-determination, attempting to maintain national unity under occupation and liberation from foreign oppression, it is a phrase which is consistent with both UNGA 37/43 and other instruments of international law.
The suggestion that Ms Tame's words will incite violence of the kind that occurred in Bondi last December is too preposterous to be worthy of further comment. That "words have consequences" is a phrase which has the merit of being both a vacuous truism and meaningless as a lazy argument for censorship of views we do not like. As Noam Chomsky has argued, "if you're in favor of free speech, then you're in favor of freedom of speech for precisely the views you despise."
Attempts to cancel her and anyone else who dares to criticise Israel, however, will do devastating damage to the freedom of speech that many Australians take for granted but will only notice when it has been taken away.
