What the US’s Venezuela excursion means to Australia: Under the logic here of the US Secretary of State, the mineral resources being exploited by US companies in Australia are what the Americans call ‘our stuff’. The fact they pay little to no taxes is an act of imperial respect from Australia. If Australia believes it should gain a little more of the profit from these resources, like Venezuela it risks America deciding to ‘move in’. Perhaps they already have.
