This trend has started many years ago, Trump’s moves aim Venezuela and threats against Greenland are only accelerating it. Don’t forget 53 of 54 African countries aligned with China last year in a tariff free trade arrangement that was one of the largest and most successful trade deals in history. We’ve never seen an entire continent pledge their allegiance to a rising superpower like this before. The Global South overwhelmingly supports China over the US. Why? Because for the past decade China has brought tangible benefits while the US is only interested in extracting your resources (no better example than Trump’s stated motive of oil, oil, oil in Venezuela) Trump’s behavior is a massive win for China! If Trump keeps acting like the leader of an imperial rogue state, more and more countries will begin to lean towards China, which will be perceived as the more rational, peaceful, rules-abiding great power. What could be worse for long-term American national interests?
