The reason the Trump admin has not yet tried to put far-right US-funded opposition figure María Corina Machado in power in Venezuela is not because she didn't give Trump her Nobel "Peace" Prize; it's because they correctly recognized that she is NOT popular in the country, and she could not govern.
If the US tried to install Machado in power as a puppet, it would lead to total chaos, and potentially civil war. A classified CIA assessment admits this, according to Reuters. Machado is hated by a big part of the population. She is only loved by a small handful of rich elites.
So the strategy of the US mafia regime is to threaten to blackmail, kidnap, or even kill top Venezuelan government officials to force them to allow US corporations to pillage the country's oil.
But this strategy assumes that Venezuelan government officials are willing to betray their country and be US puppets, which is unlikely. So more imperialist US attacks could be coming soon.
