There has been much speculation that the Americans will try to kill or capture Ayatollah Khamenei following the Nicolas Maduro operation.
But there is one factor that might just give even this extremist US administration pause for thought.
Ayatollah Khamenei isn't just the leader of Iran, he is the second most important religious figure for Shia Muslims worldwide after Ayatollah Sistani who is based in Iraq.
So a kill or capture operation will effectively be a declaration of war against over 100 million Shias who see him as their religious leader. And many of those people would literally give their lives for him.
In Catholic terms it would be like the Pope being assassinated.
So in a nutshell, any kill or capture operation would unleash a wave of violence against US interests that would be difficult to control.
