On Monday, International Criminal Court (ICC) officials announced that the court is putting in place measures to shield itself from U.S. sanctions, keeping the specifics confidential to maintain their effectiveness.
Since February, the administration of U.S. President Trump has imposed financial and visa sanctions on the ICC’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan.
In August, these sanctions were expanded to include two deputy prosecutors, Nazhat Shameem Khan and Mame Mandiaye Niang, along with six judges, while Trump also threatened sanctions against the court itself, a move some have labeled a “doomsday” measure.
