Netanyahu Threatens Gaza-Wide Retaliation After Rafah Clash, Claims “Ceasefire Violated”
Israel’s Channel 12 reports Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened an urgent meeting after five Israeli soldiers were wounded in Rafah, including one seriously.
Netanyahu stated: “The Hamas terror organization continues to violate the ceasefire agreement and carries out terror attacks against our forces. Our policy is clear: Israel will not suffer attacks on IDF soldiers and will respond accordingly.”
In reality, here’s what’s happening:
Palestinian fighters are trapped east of the ceasefire line, and Israel is refusing to let them cross west under any negotiated terms. Israeli forces have been systematically hunting and killing these fighters—at least 42 since the ceasefire began. When those fighters attempt to defend themselves, Israel uses it as a pretext to bomb and kill across Gaza, not just Rafah, mostly murdering civilians.
For context, according to an Al Jazeera analysis, Israel has attacked Gaza on 44 of the 55 days since the ceasefire began, killing 360 Palestinians and injuring 922, as reported by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Previous Rafah incidents where Israeli military claimed it was fired upon have preceded mass Israeli bombardments: 45 killed on Oct. 19, 109 on Oct. 29, 33 on Nov. 19–20, and 21 on Nov. 22.
