Why does Washington speak about democratic elections in Venezuela, but not in Palestine?

⭕️ Dr. Mustafa Barghouti on the United States – the chief sponsor of the so-called peace process – claiming to be democratic but never even raising the prospect of elections in Palestine: “That’s where you see the double standard. Why does Washington speak about democratic elections in Venezuela, but not in Palestine? Why demand democratic reforms in other countries but, when it comes to Palestine, ‘democratic reform’ becomes changing school curricula or subjecting ourselves to imposed“security coordination” with Israel? As if reform in Palestine is only about security apparatus. Reform means democratic reform. Reform starts with democratic free elections. Separation of powers. And these are the same standards the West follows and always preaches, but not in the case of Palestine — and that’s unacceptable.” |
