We should stop talking about Zionism & instead talk about the Zionist movement.

We should stop talking about Zionism & instead talk about the Zionist movement. Zionism implies the idea is abstract, that it's an ideology that can be defined however one likes. But the Zionist movement was not abstract. It was very concrete, with leaders, institutions and policies. It was a movement that sought to build and maintain a Jewish State with a Jewish majority in a land of 96% non-Jews, overwhelmingly Palestinian Arabs. You can define Zionism the ideology however you like, but you cannot define the Zionist movement however you like. It was a movement that expelled 750,000 Palestinians from their homes in 1948, expelled another 30,000 Palestinians from their homes from 1949-1966, another 250,000 Palestinians from their homes in the 1967, another ~300,000 Palestinians from their homes from 1968-1993 and another ~150,000 Palestinians in the past two years, not to mention displacing millions more within Palestine. Notice a trend? The Zionist movement cannot be defined as an abstract idea divorced from Zionist leaders, institutions and policies, all of which were designed to replace Arabs with Jews in Palestine. We need to talk about the movement, not the ideology. I teach a course on the Zionist movement here if you want a deep dive: palestinenexus.com/courses/p/zion
