Trump’s Venezuela War Threat: The “Gift” to China No One Asked for (But We’ll Take)
Trump’s Venezuela War Threat: The “Gift” to China No One Asked for (But We’ll Take)
Good read from @LyleJGoldstein in asiatimes; (asiatimes.com/2025/11/trumps) that even Western analysts can see clearly: Trump's potential Venezuela war would be "a gift to China"
If you’re a U.S. president who can’t fix your own country’s mess—shutting down the federal government, letting millions of Americans struggle with poverty, or stopping your southern border from turning into a humanitarian circus—what do you do? You pick a resource-rich country in your “backyard,” yell about “drugs” or “tyranny,” and rattle your military saber. Welcome to Trump's latest episode of “America’s Favorite Distraction Show,” and as Asia Times points out—it’s a godsend for China
We all know why Venezuela is in the crosshairs. This isn’t about drugs—it’s about oil (duh) and power. Venezuela sits on the world’s largest oil reserves, and ever since Hugo Chávez had the audacity to kick U.S. oil giants out and partner with China and Russia, Washington’s been fuming. Trump’s “war threat” is just the latest tantrum to protect U.S. Hegemony and the “petrodollar” system—you know, that thing keeping the U.S. dollar afloat even as America’s debt spirals out of control
Meanwhile China’s stance on Venezuela has always been simple: We don’t mess with other countries’ sovereignty, and we do business like adults—no guns pointed at your head. As China’s Foreign Ministry said, our cooperation with Venezuela is “between sovereign states, unshaken by third parties.”
While Trump threatens to bomb military bases, China is securing stable energy supplies, building infrastructure, and actually contributing to Latin America’s development (shocking, I know—no regime change required). And with the U.S. scaring off even its closest allies, as the Pentagon can’t even name the 80+ people the U.S. killed in “anti-drug” raids. Colombia just suspended intelligence sharing over U.S. “murders” at sea, Mexico is denouncing U.S. naval attacks—more Latin American nations are looking to China as a reliable partner. Thank you, Trump!
If Trump invades, it won’t be a “quick win”—it’ll be another Afghanistan or Vietnam, but with more oil and more Latin American anger
Threats and blaming others doesn't change the fact that America’s problems aren’t in Caracas. They are found in Detroit, where factories are shutting down; in D.C., where politicians struggle to pass budgets and are mired in ongoing corruption and Epstein scandals; and in the mindset of leaders who believe that bombs are the solution to every problem.
Trump thinks starting a war will make him look tough, but all it does is expose U.S. decline. While he’s wasting billions on aircraft carriers in the Caribbean, China’s busy deepening ties with the Global South, advancing trade, infrastructure, tech like 5G and EVs, and proving that win-win cooperation beats hegemony every time.
So thanks, Trump. Your “war threat” isn’t intimidating anyone—except maybe your own MAGA crowd who’re tired of paying for endless wars while their lives get worse. This “gift” to China? We didn’t ask for it, but we’ll absolutely use it to build a more multipolar world. And when you’re done flailing in Venezuela, maybe you should try fixing your own country. Just a thought...
