Trump just signed one of the biggest AI directives in U.S. history: the “Genesis Mission.”
According to the executive order, the program is modeled on the scale and urgency of the Manhattan Project. It creates a fully national, government-wide effort to:
• merge the entire federal scientific dataset system into a unified AI platform
• use national labs, top universities, defense sites, and private industry as one integrated research network
• accelerate AI-driven scientific discovery, automate research, and build advanced “AI agents”
• boost national security and secure long-term U.S. tech dominance
• expand federal investment into semiconductors, high-performance computing, and critical research infrastructure
The White House says the Genesis Mission is meant to “unleash a new age of AI-accelerated innovation” and guarantee U.S. leadership in the global AI race.
This is the most aggressive AI mobilization the federal government has attempted and the closest thing yet to a formal U.S. national AI project.
