It is extremely unwise to ignore the fact that a digital panopticon is being erected around us.
This is a key component of a new form of authoritarian capitalism known as Surveillance Capitalism.
This is a global governance policy agenda, the rollout of digital infrastructure is worldwide, and it coincides with the rapid installation of deregulated Freeports, Special Economic Zones, AI Growth Zones, University Enterprise Zones, Food Enterprise Zones, Defence Growth Zones and Industrial Strategy Zones all over the UK, following the UK's exit from the EU's regulatory orbit.

The whole point of free zones is to entrench corporate governance into carved-out enclaves of the host country, with laws and tax breaks tailored for maximum corporate profit, while contributing nothing to the communities that subsidise corporations at astronomical costs to taxpayers, and also the public sector.
What's happening is that collective sovereignty (people power) is being replaced with corporate sovereignty (the asset classes power).
The Scale is Staggering:
The UK now has 86 designated zones (12 Freeports, 74 Special Economic Zones/Investment Zones), now being consolidated into "Industrial Strategy Zones", plus AI Growth Zones launched by Starmer in January 2025 with over 200 bids submitted so far.
What's Being Transferred:
Each zone operates through complex public-private partnerships where corporate entities gain effective governance powers, with zone boards structured to prioritise investment delivery over democratic input.
Remember Tony Blair's disastrous uptake of John Majors Private Finance Initiatives (PFI)?
Take that and apply it to entire regions of the UK.
Public services are small potatoes to the asset classes, they mean nothing to these oligarchs and technocrats when compared with their ultimate goal of 21st-century feudalism, comprised of a deregulated digital layer that will monitor your every move, your bank accounts, your private life, your kids lives, everything you do 24/7
