🔴 NEW: Netanyahu Digs In, Undercutting U.S. Effort to Move Gaza Plan Forward Netanyahu opened his cabinet meeting today with standard election-year posturing, then moved straight into drawing hard red lines that collide with the U.S. plan Washington is trying to push through the UN. He declared that Gaza “will be demilitarized and Hamas disarmed” under any scenario — a message aimed squarely at shutting down the emerging U.S. fallback option to begin reconstruction without disarmament (according to Israeli outlet Channel 13), after weeks of failed attempts to recruit countries willing to carry out that mission. He went further, reiterating his blanket rejection of any Palestinian state west of the Jordan River. That too was a response to the revised U.S. Security Council resolution, which affirms the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood under international law, even without promising one outright. Reporting in Politico this week shows senior U.S. officials now fear the American plan for post-war Gaza–backed by various important allies– could remain stuck. Taken together, Netanyahu’s comments make clear the widening disconnect between Israel’s leadership and the direction the U.S. is trying to advance — a disconnect deepened by Washington’s willingness, until now, to let Israel dictate the terms.
