Benni Scuderi, MEP for North-West Italy, was aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla when Israel violently intercepted it. After her release, she returned to Strasbourg and blasted the European Parliament for refusing to debate the illegal attack, calling it a choice of “silence and complicity.”
The Green Europe/Europa Verde party MEP who was elected in 2024, wrote in an Instagram post that the EU had chosen “not speak about the violations of international law, about torture, about illegal detention, about the use of force against civilians who were carrying water, food, and medicine.”“Europe, which calls itself the defender of human rights and democracy, today turned its gaze away... But we will continue. Because solidarity cannot be stopped. And because silence, in the face of genocide, is always a political choice.”
