🚨 BREAKING: Adalah, the Haifa-based legal rights group, confirms that after being seized from international waters, Global Sumud Flotilla “participants were forced to kneel with their hands zip-tied for at least five hours, after some participants chanted Free Palestine.” Adalah attorneys have since met with 331 flotilla participants at Ashdod Port, where they faced hearings before Israeli immigration authorities. 1. Humiliation tactics: National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir disrupted lawyer visits “in what was clearly intended as an act of humiliation and intimidation.” According to Adalah, “flotilla participants were filmed, and exploited in a degrading display of control, alongside Israeli officials’ ongoing smear campaign… branding flotilla members as ‘terrorists.’” 2. Unlawful process: Adalah stresses, “The entire process is unlawful from start to finish. The interception itself violated international law, amounting to abduction in international waters… the blockade itself is illegal, constitutes collective punishment, and serves as a central tool of the ongoing genocide, including the deliberate use of starvation as a method of warfare.” 3. Systematic rights violations: Participants were denied water, bathrooms, and medications, as well as legal access. Lawyers were left waiting nine hours outside Ashdod Port, only learning hearings had begun when detainees called them directly. “Several participants reported being subjected to aggression, threats, and harassment, including being woken violently whenever they tried to sleep.” 4. Transfer to prison: Authorities moved the detainees from Ashdod to Ktzi’ot Prison in the Naqab, where tribunal hearings began “entirely without legal representation.” Adalah lawyers are now present at the proceedings. 5. Next steps: Adalah says it is taking measures to ensure “every single participant is accounted for,” while demanding their immediate release and the return of their personal belongings and humanitarian aid supplies.
